State-of-the-art museum of Madras Regimental Centre inaugurated

ITANAGAR, Apr 26: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig. (Retd) B.D. Mishra inaugurated state-of-the-art museum of Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) in Shri Nagesh Barracks Complex, Wellington on Friday.

Dr Mishra, who is on a three-day official tour to Tamil Nadu, dedicated the magnificent repository of arte facts, weapons, paintings, portraits and other items of historical, cultural, social and environmental importance reminiscent of its  glory to the MRC.  The museum intends to provide an insight into the unique martial medieval and modern history of Madrassi soldier and serve as a source of patriotism and pride for Indian armed forces.

He lauded all ranks of the MRC for the museum to showcase their valour and fame and hoped it will motivate young recruits to emulate the lofty traditions of the MRC toeing its motto Swadharme Nidhanam Shreyaha (It is glory to die doing one’s duty).

The MRC carries the sobriquet, ‘Oldest and Best’ among infantry regiments of Indian Army, a number of battle honours, citations for duty, distinctions and gallantry awards won by ‘the Thambis’, the synonym for Madrassi soldiers.

Governor’s wife Neelam Misra, MRC Col, Lt Gen Rajeev Chopra,  ADG (D&V), Maj Gen Virendra Singh, Maj Gen Manjinder, Commandant Brig. SK Sangwan, were present among all ranks and veterans. (PRO)
